Fairbanks–On Friday, May 11, twenty-one walkers turned out to munch their way through downtown Fairbanks in support of the Kitty Hensley House Museum in the sixteenth annual Walk for Charity sponsored by Explore Fairbanks.
On a very windy but otherwise “Purr-fect Day” for the event, the walkers received gifts in appreciation of their support. All registered walkers received a lightweight drawstring backsack, a 2018 Kitty Hensley House button, sunglasses, and a bandana. Backsack and sunglasses were graciously donated by RetailMeNot, Inc. All gifts were issued at the assembly area just prior to the event and were worn throughout the 4K trek.
After a decorated apron contest, walkers enjoyed scrumptious bites along the route, enjoying such delectables as enchiladas, scones, “Musher’s Tea”, caramelized onion bread, and pulled pork tacos served up by local eateries and charities. At the end of the trail, all walkers were welcomed into the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center where they were greeted with more food and gifts. Random prize winners were revealed from the pool of early registrants.
Through walker registration and donations, the Kitty Hensley House Museum will receive a much needed shot in the arm for operation and maintenance of the tiny museum, also known as “Cabin 11” at Pioneer Memorial Park.
The Pioneers would like to thank everyone who showed support for Kitty and hope you keep us in mind for the seventeenth annual Walk for Charity next year!
