Last summer, Fairbanks Pioneers placed a large granite monument in the Mining Valley at Pioneer Park dedicated to the prospectors who developed the Fairbanks Mining District.
This year, two additional signs will be placed on the monument displaying the first map of the Fairbanks Mining District along with photos of several men who were the first to prospect Fairbanks claims.
The monument and signs were paid for by Men’s Igloo No. 4, Women’s Igloo No. 8, and a generous donation made by Stella Carpenter. The images came from the Pioneer Museum and UAF’s Elmer E. Rasmuson Library.
